FAQ

Why can I only select local pickup? Or British Columbia shipping?

At this time, I'm only selling locally within the province of BC. This allows me to have more control over the quality of the tubers. Shipping across agricultural zones and variable weather is something I don't want to have to worry about at this time. I'm more than happy to suggest growers who do ship or who are local to you if you need any guidance with that. I'll use Canada Post flat rate boxes for ease and to cut down on other packaging costs at a flat $20. I'm more than happy to combine orders. Just shoot me an email to confirm.

What can I expect from a dahlia tuber?

All tubers sold will have a firm tuber body, an intact neck, and a visible eye on the crown. All tubers with the above-mentioned qualities are viable and capable of growth. Please take a moment at pickup to inspect your tubers and ensure satisfaction by confirming these three things. Don’t hesitate to ask.
I also expect that the variety you see in the photos of my listings will be the variety you grow from your tuber. All the photos in my listings (two exceptions that I purchased from dahlia society growers as whole clumps are mentioned in descriptions) are from last summer/fall in my own home garden. Environmental factors such as insects, watering the foliage, afternoon watering in the heat, heat stress, nutritional deficiencies, and other issues can all impact the appearance of your blooms (open faces, tarnished edges, brown spots, powdery mildew, etc). I was able to harvest my tubers before the killing frost and was able to confirm each bloom. Mislabels can still happen. I am human. Please contact me if this happens and your tuber variety is in a different world than you expected. Mislabels will be dealt with on a case by case basis.

I cannot guarantee that your tuber will grow and bloom as there are way too many environmental factors that are not within my control once the tuber leaves my hands. I cannot offer refunds on tubers once they have been planted because of all of the unknowns.

What is a dahlia pre-sale?

When you order from a local grower, you are ordering a perishable product that could be impacted by the environment before the pick up date at planting time. If I am unable to fulfill any part of your order, you will be contact asap and refunded.

How do I store my tuber before planting?

Pickup will take place around the time you can consider planting. I'll have your tubers in a medium (either vermiculite or pine chips). Keep out of light and on the cooler side (under 15 degrees) if possible if you don't plan to plant right away. Plant within a couple weeks though for best results. Monitor for condensation in packaging or crack open to prevent moisture from sprouting eye. monitor for any shriveling, drying as well.

How do I grow dahlias?

I'd love to help you with this! I'll have a bunch of info on my instagram story highlights to help walk you through the process from planting, to pinching, to watering, harvesting, digging and dividing all thru the growing season. I'm also working to update this website with more information for those not on instagram before your pick up dates. Feel free to reach out to me as well with any questions via dm or email...
